Fix It Friday - Part 2

I figured out another Fix It Friday Project. I hate shower doors. They are so hard to keep clean. I had planned to scour the bathrooms tomorrow for Scour it Saturday so I decided to spray down the shower to take the first bit of soap scum off tonight. I was looking at our shower door and decided I hated it and had lived with it for over 4 years so I got a screwdriver and took it off. Then I got the razor blades out and started removing all the caulk and just kept going around the whole tub because there was mildew that was also driving me crazy.

So now tomorrow I need to go buy some caulk and a shower rod and curtain so we can use our shower again!
Oh and this is my index finger. Ouch! This was painful work and I should have had some gloves on because my fingers are dirty, cracked and bleeding.

I Finally Got Our Water Storage Refilled!

I finally got our water storage rotated. It took me a while to get smart about it. The first 4 containers I filled up by the house and then carried them to the garage. The last 10 containers I moved into the garage and then used the hose to fill them up so I didn't have to carry them so far! We have 84 gallons of water stored in the garage & downstairs I have 8 cases of water from Costco which is about 32 gallons. When I last checked the minimum amount of water to be stored is 2 gallons per person per day. My goal is to have a weeks worth of water on hand so that would be 112 gallons needed for the 8 of us and I've got 116 gallons so I barely meet the minimum. My plan is to increase our water storage to at least 150 gallons so we'll have enough to share with others if needed.

One of the hazards of emptying and refilling water storage is the run off makes great mud puddles. Yes it is the middle of November but it a beautiful sunny fall day here with temperatures around 70 degrees! So what better thing for Kylie to do then change into her swimsuit and play in the mud.

Fix It Friday....

So I'm not really handy and can't think of anything that needs fixing that I can fix. Brian is the handy man and can fix about anything. So I've opted to fix something I've been procrastinating for too long. I just went and pulled our water storage containers out of the shed. I know why I've been dreading this job. They are almost too heavy for me to lift. I'm going to empy them all out, fill them up again and put them back. 3 of them are already empty, why they didn't have water in them I have no idea but it means less work for me because I don't have to empty those ones!

Fix It Friday

I got several small Fix it Friday Tasks done today.
  • Bought and dumped Drain-O down our sluggish toilet.
  • Replaced a switch plate cover that was broken.
  • Spackled several holes in the walls.
  • Used paint to touch up the spackled holes and areas where painted had chipped off the walls.
  • Sewed a button on a pair of Capris that have been unwearable all summer due to having no button.
  • Sewed a seam on a brand new pair of Capris that I only wore once before realizing they had a faulty seam.
Brian was in awe to walk in a find me with my mom's sewing machine out!
Believe it or not I am actually mending a pair of pants!

This lovely spot of chipping paint is now touched up.
This beautiful hole where a shelf used to be mounted on our wall is now spackled and painted... Brian would have done a much smoother more professional looking job but what I did looks better than what was there before.

Mother, Tackle, Wash, Thwart, Fix, Scour & Savor IT!

So I love Tackle it Tuesday. It so works for me. There are so many things I just don't get done and having just one project to take on has really worked for me. Unbelievable my office is still clean! It feels so great.

My good friend Yoga drove down to visit me on Saturday. After and early lunch at Durangos a couple hours of shopping and then a late lunch at Outback I left feeling rejuvenated. I love you Yoga and am so grateful you went out of your way to spend and afternoon with me!

One thing we discussed briefly was Tackle It Tuesday. Yoga had been trying to come up with something for the other days of the week. She'd come up with Wash It Wednesday and Fix it Friday. It got my brain going and I wanted to come up with something for each day of the week because I thrive with motivation and love the sense of having something that I can accomplish and be proud of.

After church today with the help of a dictionary I enlisted Brian and the kids to help me come up with something for everyday of the week.

So we already had:
Tackle it Tuesday - Tackle any project that you need to get done.
Wash it Wednesday - Dishes, Laundry, your car, the spots on your walls...Lots of possibilities for something that desperately needs washing.
Fix it Friday - Fix something that needs fixing, mend clothes, repair something, replace something that is broken, etc.

The remaining ideas come from my husband and children. We brainstormed and voted on them and this is what we came up with.

Mother It Monday - We had lots of ideas from Mend it to Make it to Move it to Muster it... but it was unanimous that Monday should be Mother It Monday - Do something to be a better mother, read a book, take a walk with the kids, a bike ride, go to the park, sit and talk... Anything to better my relationship with my children.

Thursday was nearly impossible to figure out! Throttle it, thrash it, throw it, thrice it, through it... Ultimately we decided upon Thwart it Thursday. The definition of thwart included: to oppose and defeat, to hinder or prevent. We decided on picking some area of the house needed to be defeated. Clutter or chaos or even bad habits in any form that need to be thwarted.

Scour it Saturday - Anything that needs scouring or to be clear or rid of what is undesirable. Some sort of deep cleaning task from the oven to the soap scum to anything that is needing a good cleaning and scrubbing.

Savor It Sunday - Obviously not a day of work but rather a day to reflect on all that is good in life. A time to appreciate and relish and enjoy what we have been blessed with. (Brett says we should call it Sit it Sunday so we can just "sit" and rest all day).

I don't promise to tackle all of these each week but my goal is to accomplish at least several of them each week. I know there will be days when simply meeting the basic needs of my family is all I will be able to accomplish. But I hope to be able to get a better handle on thing by simply setting a small goal each day and accomplishing it.
