First Day of School - What Time Is It?

This morning I could be heard singing a different version of High School Musical's What Time Is It?:

Finally school is here
No more chillin' out
Back on the clock
The vacation's off
Now school's what it's all about

Everybody ready, going crazy, school is in
Come on and let me hear you say it now, right now

What time is it?
School Time
No more vacation
What time is it?
Study Time
That's right, say it loud

Now we're wakin' up at 6 am
'Cause now our time is not our own

School pride lets show it
We're champions and we know it
Bobcats
Are the best
Brown white and gold

When it's time to win we do it
We're number one we proved it
Let's live it up
Study Hard
That's what school is all about!

Bryce is going into 7th Grade.
Brett's first day of High School. 10th grade.
Bradley is starting 3rd Grade.
Kim's last year at the elementary school. 5th Grade.
Bradley with his teacher Mrs. Puzey.
Kim with her good friend Megan.
Kim with her teacher Mrs. Lenhart.
Kylie doesn't start preschool for 3 more weeks. But today she does get to go play at her friend Jessie's house.

As for me - I'm celebrating by going out to lunch with Brian.

Back to School Nights

Holding a Back to School Night the night before school starts is not a good idea. Having 2 schools holding Back to School Nights the night before schools starts is a worse idea. Seriously it's been a crazy night. I'm exhausted. Morning is going to come too soon and the alarm is going to go off way too early for my liking.

What is up with having 3 different start times for school? Bryce has to leave at 7:05 to catch his bus. Brett needs a ride to school at 7:55. Kim and Brad will need a ride at 8:35. I wish they all started school at 8:30 and could all leave and come home at the same time. To have breakfast together as a family and get our scripture reading done before school will mean waking everyone up at 6:40. Wish us luck, last year we lasted less than a week then letting the kids sleep in won out.

5 Days and Counting...

School starts Wednesday. I think it's one of those "the grass is always greener" things.
Can't wait for summer to arrive and I'm so ready when it does. I love sleeping in and not having to worry about homework and schedules.
But now I can't wait for school to start. I'm so ready for a schedule and routine again!

School is Starting Soon...

The kids got a letter in the mail today with their teachers for next year. They are really excited. Bradley has Mrs. Puzey! Dang good thing - I would have thrown a fit if he didn't have her. She is our favorite, Kylie already talks about having Mrs. Puzey when she goes to school. Kim got Mrs. Lenhart and is excited that her friend McCall is in her class. The countdown is on. 2 1/2 weeks and summer is over.

Technology & School

I love that many teachers are finally using email and the internet to communicate with parents. I love visiting a blog and seeing a picture of my son in his class. I love emails telling me when tests and other important dates are. I love blogs that let me know what happened in class on a given day. I know it is extra time for the teachers but a huge thanks to those who take the extra time. I would much rather receive an email than have to search through a backpack full of papers looking for the 1 important message I need to read.

One week down!

We've made it through our first week of school. No one is getting enough sleep. We can't seem to get to bed early enough but other than that all seems to be going well.

Kylie has 1 more week until she starts preschool.
This is the conversation she has with everyone she meets from the checker at the grocery store to a guy walking into the school.

Kylie: What's your name?
Stranger: (tells her their name) What's your name?
Kylie: Kylie Rebecca Habel. How old are you?
Stranger: Various responses but most just say something like "really old" How old are you?
Kylie: I'm 3. I go to preschool in 8 days.
At which point in time I usually allowed the said stranger to go on their way by focusing Kylie's attention on to something else.
The best is when they tell her their age and it ends in "3".
Stranger: I'm 33
Kylie with a huge grin on her face: 3 Just like me!

Back to School

Hard to believe Bradley is already in 2nd grade. He was up and ready to go and was excited and said he wasn't even tired despite going to bed really late.
Bradley has Miss Hicken. Bryce and Kim have both had her and loved her so I put Bradley with her too.
Kim looked so pretty heading off to school today.
She is in 4th grade with Mrs. Bateman and is excited to be in a portable this year.
Kylie doesn't start preschool until 2 weeks from today.
But the concept of 2 weeks is hard for a 3 year old to understand so we stopped by her preschool so she could see her classroom and all the fun toys they have there.

Intermediate School

Off to his first day of 6th grade at the intermediate school. From 1 teacher & 1 classroom in 5th grade to 6 teachers and 6 different classrooms.
There is a huge group of kids from the neighborhood that meet at the bus stop. Only 2 girls and a bunch of boys.

I told Bryce to turn around and smile and Ashton is reaching out telling him to smile. Yes I was one of only 2 parents at the bus stop. I was actually surprised that the bus pulled up right on time 7:17 am, I thought it might be late the first day.

Back to School Early Tomorrow

10:45 and all the kids are finally downstairs. I totally failed in the "ready" for school department. It was Back to School night tonight at the elementary school and I didn't get home until after 8:30. No one had even started getting their school supplies together and their backpacks packed. The house was a disaster and everyone was hungry. The kids got their chores done (thanks Brian for seeing to that), had a snack, packed their backpacks, made their lunches and then we had Father's Blessings. Now it's off to bed because we are getting up really early tomorrow because.....

We found out that they just started offering an early morning seminary class so we enrolled Brett in it! It's not even true "early" morning seminary because it doesn't even start until 7:00 am and it is only 3 days a week. But it's good enough to make me happy! My poor children have the "meanest" mom in the world, I rejoice that they get to attend early morning seminary.

Last Day of School

Our last school morning was quite exciting because Tim, Kristen & Amelia had spent the night on their way home to ID. We had a yummy breakfast of waffles & hash browns before the kids headed off to school and they headed north towards home.

Brett didn't have any classes. He was only at school for about an hour to sign yearbooks and then he and Tommy showed up to spend the day playing. Brett finished 8th grade with a great report card. We're sure proud of how far he has come.
Kim is officially done with 3rd grade. How did she get so old so fast? I sure did love the teacher she had. Mrs. Puzey rocks!
Bradley came home from school with a pout on his face. He was so sad. I asked him if he was sick or if something bad had happened. No he was so sad because he wouldn't have Mrs. Merrill as his teacher anymore and would miss her. I finally ran him back up to the school so he could see her one last time before summer. He gave her a big hug and she gave him her phone number and invited him over to go swimming this summer. What a fabulous teacher! I'm sure he'll love school next year in 2nd grade too because he has a nice teacher next year too.
Bryce finished 5th grade and is no longer in elementary school. It's on to intermediate school next year. Bryce is a whiz! He got in the top 10% of all students nationally on his testing this year. Way to go Bryce!

School Picture Day!

It's a rare morning that we wash and dry Kim's hair. Usually we just run a brush through her bed head or pull her hair back in a pony tail. But on picture day she got up and we washed, dried & curled the ends of her hair. Isn't she so cute!

Back to Blogging

So I usually use the excuse that I don't blog because I can never find the camera. I finally decided I need to blog even without pictures. So here we go.

School started 3 weeks ago today. Can you believe how early they start here?
Brett is at the middle school in 8th Grade.
Bryce, Kim & Brad are at the elementary school in 5th, 3rd & 1st Grade.
Kylie is stuck home and bored most of the time.

Kylie's favorite "field trip" is to go to Costco during the day. We've gone at least once a week since school started until the end of last week when I decided that the budget couldn't handle the "free lunch" we were having while there. The samples are fabulous but I always put a few things in my cart and never seemed to get out of Costco without spending at least $100. I was eyeing a new comforter set for our bedroom and debated getting it everytime I walked by, on the last trip put it in the cart so our lunch was definately not free on that day!

First Day of School

We were all excited for school to start this year although the summer flew by!

How in the world did I get old enough to have a teenager? Brett started 8th grade which means we only have 5 years left with him at home! Yikes time sure does fly by!

Kimberly is now 8 and starting 3rd grade. She is so excited for school to start. She is a sweetie!

What is Kylie going to do all day with everyone else at school all day? She is 2 and thinks she's a big kid and wants to go to school too.

This is Bryce's last year of elelmentary school. He's 10 and one of the top dog at school now because 5th grade is the last year of elementary school here.

Have you ever seen anyone this excited to start school. Bradley is 6 and heading into 1st grade.

The kids said I needed my picture taken too. I'm excited to be back on a schedule!
The walk to school.

Bradley is in Mrs. Merrill's class.
Kim has Mrs. Puzey.
Bryce has Mrs. Bryner.

Crazy Hair Day

It was Red Ribbon Week this past week. Both the middle school and the elementary school had different things going on each day. From wearing their pajamas to school, to wearing mixed up clothes, from hats to crazy hair day. I was in trouble for not buying hair dye this year but we did the best we could with what we had!
